Music Unity For Mental Health presents Reflective Frequencies
Music Policy - Tech House-Acid House - Techno-Acid Techno and everything in and around
Come join us for a day and evening of music and unity at The Star of Kings! Like Emotional Response, Reflective Frequencies is all about connecting through music and raising awareness of mental health in a safe and inclusive environment with like minded clubbers who want to dance and support this very important cause.
Join us for Reflective Frequencies, a mindful, underground journey through House and Techno.
Get ready to dance your heart out at the most epic house and techno party of the Summer season. On Saturday, 6th July 2024, we're bringing the heat once again to the Star Of Kings in Kings Cross, London.
Immerse yourself in an afternoon and evening filled with pulsating beats, captivating melodies, and a vibrant, up-for-it crowd. Our lineup of top DJ talent will take you on a journey through the best underground House and Techno. From Progressive and Tech House through Minimal and Acid techno, you'll be taken on a musical journey like no other by some of the most exciting DJ's on the scene right now, alongside two huge legends, ensuring an unforgettable experience that will leave you craving for more.
We've chosen The Star Of Kings for this party as it has a more intimate back-in-the-day party vibe. The venue comprises a large pub and below it is where we will be dancing the day and evening away in their cool little basement. The whole place has a great feel and vibe with plenty of areas to move around if you want to chill for a bit outside the main space.
As always we will be adding a special unobtrusive awareness layer to this event which you will discover all around the space. There will be a merch stall to purchase MU4MH stuff and music-related items like classic album releases and books related to music and mental health.
We will also have mental health first aiders on site once again so if you are a little uncertain about attending, please be sure you are 100% welcome and you will be looked after. Feel free to get in touch to discuss this further as we are able to meet and greet before we open to make it easier for you before the event starts.
Part of the profits from this event go towards providing DJ Workshops which we run with On The Rise DJ Academy in Wembley, London. These Workshops provide a creative outlet for anyone wanting to try something new or use them as a tool to distract you from your thoughts or everyday life. Music is powerful and that's why we do what we do. We all use music to boost our well-being too. Funds also go towards the running of our little organisation, like advertising and website costs.
Whether you DJ, produce music, maybe play an instrument, love a gig or festival or just like to listen to music and dance like no one's watching, music has so much to offer.
Its multiple systems can interact to produce benefits for mental health and social wellbeing, both by integrating our thinking and emotions and helping us Connect With others and improve our wellbeing.
Music is key and music has an all-encompassing power to change our mood and get us through the most difficult of times.
Who are Music Unity For Mental Health?
We are a music organization based in Chelmsford, Essex using the power and magic of music to help with people's mental health and wellbeing. This is done by holding music events around The UK and online plus other projects including DJ/Music workshops, volunteering, online talks and get-togethers.. By making the cause the priority at all of our events we raise awareness and create conversations about mental health, breaking down the barriers and stigma. Our event environments are fun, informative, friendly and safe and they have qualified Mental Health first-aiders always onsite. We try to allow everyone to have a voice and support the cause even if they find it difficult to talk about their struggles, people can use music as an outlet. DJs/Clubbers/Volunteers/Venue staff all have this creative platform to express their support for the cause and to also help themselves. We also signpost anyone who needs help with relevant services.

A special thank you from our founder - Ant Banks
Hello everyone, ⚠️long post warning and apologies for any typos, I'm relying on my friend Grammarly, who doesn't always get things right and i find myself correcting it myself 😆 ⚠️
So, it's taken longer than usual to do my usual write-up on one of our events, what with the day job and post-event stuff, which is still ongoing I just haven't had time to properly sit down and put my thoughts down.
Those who know me know I go quiet after an event to manage my mental health and especially emotions. I struggle like many to keep them in check after a big thing that happens in my life. This event was no exception and with it being our most successful to date, I had to do a bit more work than usual. But I tried not to go completely away from everything as after all I use MU4MH for myself as much as I want others to use it. It keeps me distracted from my wandering thoughts and overthinking. I'm glad to say I didn't dip. I normally do it after events. I was overwhelmed by all of the chatter online since and it continues. This is the best thing ever because it not only keeps the momentum going but also keeps the cause front and center. Which is the reason we do this.
Every event before and after creates conversations about mental health.
And that is why we have worked hard to get 3 more events over the next 12 months sorted. I've been working with Lee Moule since Emotional Response to get those concrete and we're excited to say all 3 are happening. More about that after this extremely long thank you post 😁
So...Emotional Response Feb 2024...WOW! Just WOW! If ever there was one event that finally showed me all the hard work the past 5 years(an idea rattling around my head for over 10) was worth it, then it was this event.
When you sell out an event, (this was the first since I started mu4mh), there is still a little voice telling you to be cautious, reign the excitement in until the day, and wait until you see how the event unfolds, then you'll be certain, don't get carried away. As we found out at the previous one, people sometimes don't turn up but we worked so hard to make sure anyone who couldn't attend requested a refund so we could release those tickets to people who could make it.
Within 2 hours of opening, I knew this was going to be the best party so far.
And the biggest part of the day for me was for the first time knowing that clubbers were not only there for the music but the cause too. In the build-up to it, I saw lots of comments about the cause along with the DJs playing and on the day I had numerous conversations with clubbers who wanted to either praise us for what we were doing or talk about their mental health and experiences in their life, past and present, it was humbling to listen to you and wonderful we were able to create this space in our clubbing world where people felt comfortable talking about mental health. Admittedly, standing in the middle of a packed dance floor isn't the most ideal place to hold a conversation about mental health but hey, that's the power of music, right? 😁💜
So, I want to take this opportunity to thank every one of you guys (I normally do this in the club too just before the last DJ but I hope you'll forgive me for it slipping my mind🤦🏼) you were simply fantastic, from the start to the finish you made me so happy. Knowing you came out to our little party to help us raise awareness. I do say this a lot but without you, this wouldn't work and I and mu4mh are eternally grateful to all of you who join us to make this happen.
We come together as one, to not only enjoy the music but to make a difference. You should be very proud of what you were a part of. I know I am. 😊😊😊
Speaking of making a difference, I had mentioned briefly before that the merch stall alone had paid for the next DJ workshops, this is the first time this has happened, we provide these for anyone wanting to distract their thoughts or try something creative for a few hours and be with like-minded people. I again am amazed we managed this. It's another thing I wanted to happen but wasn't expecting it at this event. So thank you again.
The total raised from this event after expenses was £478 given or take a few pieces of shrapnel 😁 Not only will this help us provide the workshops but will keep the wheels turning here at MU4MH, it isn't cheap at all to do this and we are so grateful to everyone who bought a ticket, spent money on merch or threw some notes and change in the donation bucket. Or donated after the event. We love you 💜💜💜
So, stay with me 😁 we now move on to those amazing, talented DJs. I think it is safe to say once again, that they brought their A games to the party.
Every event we host I am blown away by the quality and talent of our DJs, our residents, Edele Andaya, Adam Taylor, Blackromeo, Josh Bailey, Ricardo Elgardo who support us at every party and continue to show their support, and their sets are incredible, giving up their time to support the cause and entertain us all and support the guest DJs too. Our guests, Heart & Hawk, Dan Cooper, Slipcode, James Black, PHD, and Luke Haydon were all incredible too, showing us how talented they are and their kindness speaks volumes. Thank you again all of you.
As you know if you've been to our previous events and probably have figured out if this was your first, all of the DJs aren't restricted to how they play, there is no warming up 😁
I tell them, this is their platform to showcase what they do, hence why if you walk in at doors open, you will get full-on Trance and before you know it, you're on the dancefloor earlier than you'd ordinarily want to😂
But on the flip side, you might be dancing to some slower progressive at peak time.
It always flows and of course, the DJs love that they can show what they can do.
And. wow, did they do that for this event?
Again, we could not do it without these amazing kind souls either, so from me, thank you, all of you for helping me continue what I dreamt up over 10 years ago, I always think I can't show my gratitude enough in words alone but hope you all know what it means to me that you support us in the way you do.
I must mention our awesome team at this event. From our volunteers who always go above and beyond to keep the wheels turning on the day and evening DJs who ask me if there is anything to do and offer help. Thank you to all of you. And for putting up with my stress when setting up 😬
I want to make a special mention to Lee Moule. Many of you know him from the scene and also know what an amazing, caring, and kind soul he is.
Lee works closely with me on these events and with each event he does more and more to support me in the planning stages, as well as on the day and post-event. He's also a close friend and he supports me personally too.
Most of you don't see what goes on in the planning stages, there is a huge amount of work to it, and as we are also charity based there is the added layer of the cause which gives us double the work. Lee has helped me through a lot of the planning, times when I have dipped or started overthinking about the event, he has been on the end of the phone with support and words of encouragement which have helped immensely, and that amazing little venue you all loved, Lee has dealt with them from the beginning. I wanted him to do that, it's once again a distraction for him too. From emails to phone calls, he has handled all of it and of course on the day. Pretty much-running everything while running around like a headless chicken. Or throw some shapes on the stage area 🤦🏼😂
Thank you, Lee. For everything. You're an integral part of MU4MH. And I wouldn't want it any other way.💜💜💜
A little mention for Anna who was on our merch stall all day and evening. What an absolute star. Anna, who many of you will know, wasn't even down to volunteer, but she stepped up and took full responsibility for the stall as we needed a bit more help. After helping to set the venue up she then ran the makeshift cloakroom and the stall. You were amazing Anna and I am so proud of you for taking that on. Thank you ❤️
I can't forget Lee's mum Pam Moule for all the amazing merch goodies too. Thank you so so much, Pam 💜
I'm nearly finished, honestly. 😬
Huge thanks to Wendy who also helped us with security early on and setting the venue up. She also helped me get all the gear in and out of the venue along with others.
Your support is so appreciated. She's been with me from the beginning when I first had the idea. And also helped me through my breakdowns all those years ago and listened to my ramblings of an idea for an events organisation that helps people with their mental health, she has a lot to do with why I'm still here. I don't tell you how much I appreciate everything you've done for me Wend. Thank you ❤️
Nick Sanett and Stewart Elliott for their tireless running around capturing you all on photos and video. Both are amazing, thank you.
How about that venue? I think it's safe to say, you all loved the bookcase 😀
What an amazing way to enter a party.
The venue and its staff were awesome, special mention to Emily, the manager who helped us throughout the whole day, the staff, and the security in the evening. Everything felt perfect.
Right, I think it's time to end this now and let you enjoy your day if there's anything left after reading this 😂
I think summing up, I'll refer back to a moment I had in the venue. I can't remember which DJ it was but I was dancing, and during a breakdown of a track, this DJ pointed to me and clapped and the whole room looked my way. If you know me, you know I hate ego, I hate showing off and I find it difficult to take compliments, I'm humble and in this industry, you need an ego in any creative art, but you need to keep it in check. You go a lot further and meet nicer people in the industry while also weeding out the not-so-nice, I try to put this across to new DJs, even seasoned DJs, and to our volunteers too. And I see the results.
I also say it's not about me, it's about you guys, the clubbers, the DJs, and the volunteers.
I've just created a platform for you all. But at that moment at the party, it finally dawned on me that I created this. And I broke down. I couldn't control my tears, my thoughts went back to when I was ill with my mental health. And then everything became so clear, how far I've come, how hard it was and still is, I couldn't stop crying. And some of you who don't know me were probably thinking what's up with this guy 😂
Well, that was my Emotional Response, and as much as I find it extremely difficult to say this, I'm proud of what I'm creating here. Because it isn't finished. But those emotions were real, and I finally accepted what I had created and it's real.
I'll leave it there because it still makes me uncomfortable speaking about myself 😂
I hope you made it this far and enjoyed a glimpse into MU4MH and my head 😂
Thank you again to everyone involved. I'm sorry if I haven't addressed everyone individually but you know how I feel about you.
What's next?
A special partnership with Pioneer DJ,
Workshops announced soon,
Our 5th Birthday with a little takeover at a well-known place in Camden 😉
Reflective Frequencies proper launch back through the bookcase.
More Emotional Response 🤩💜
We look forward to having you with us again soon to help us make lots of noise and make a difference....as one ❤️
Much love
Ant ❤️❤️❤️
PS. I still think that proud emoji looks like it has an ego and arrogant 🤪😆

THE EVENT
Following on from our successful launch of Emotional Response and the FREE Christmas Trance party at VR5 The Loft @ EGG LDN in 2019, we bring you your next one this December and continue our mindful journey through Trance and raise lots of mental health awareness and of course show the power of music once again and how it can help our mental wellbeing.
As you can imagine it has been difficult to get the lineup that was planned for the original date so a few changes have been made but we still think these incredibly kind DJs who are giving up their time for this important cause will give us all a day to remember...All of them have played numerous times on our many online events over the past 18 months so we and they can't wait to finally get back into a club and do this all properly.
From established names to those who are currently making waves in the Trance scene, they have again been incredibly kind with their time to come and help and support the cause and raise lots of mental health awareness.
We are very excited to be back at VR5 The Loft @ EGG London as we found it created that special atmosphere we look for in our daytime events, It has a light and airy feel with a great outside area which is close to the main space so you will never be far from the music and for those of us who get a little anxious about being enclosed, this is a perfect space because of the way the room is laid out with high ceilings and those big windows that face the outdoor area.
-------------------------------------
THE FUNDRAISING
Over the past year and a bit since Covid hit Music Unity For Mental Health have held 6 online fundraising events to help outside charities as they needed help more than ever to deal with the increased pressure on their services and an unprecedented amount of people needing to reach out to them and we are so proud to say we raised close to £4000 across all those events and a couple of other little projects too and we thank everyone for their kind donations, you have 100 percent made a difference. We then held our first fundraising event for ourselves since our launch in 2019. The funds we raised have gone towards getting our FREE DJ Workshops back up and running but we still need more to reach our goal and have these on a regular basis so for this event all profits will be used to do just that. We have a DJ Academy in London who will run those for us but also want to start them where we are based which is in Essex.
You can speak to us at the event to find out more about our plans for these workshops.
We will also have lots of merch goodies on sale at the event and as always plenty of surprises and giveaways to thank you all for your support.
As with all of our events, we will give people the opportunity to work with us and be a part of the music so once again we will be putting out a call for volunteers closer to the event. So if you have always wanted to be a part of an event and see how it is set up and run or just want to show your support for the cause then keep a lookout on our socials for when we put the details up.
For the first time, we will now have MHFA approved Mental Health first aiders on site. So if you know of anyone or you are someone who might be in two minds about attending any of our future events and projects, be sure we are doing our best to make everyone feel included and have people in the spaces who you can talk to or get help if needed.
We cannot wait to welcome you all once again to our first REAL event since 2019,
and look forward to meeting old and new friends of Music Unity For Mental Health.
Let's make this party something special for us all and continue raising that awareness.
Make Lots Of Noise And Make A Difference
---------------------------------------------
THE CAUSE
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year.
In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety and depression) in any given week.
Are mental health problems increasing?
The overall number of people with mental health problems has not changed significantly in recent years, but worries about things like money, jobs and benefits can make it harder for people to cope.
It appears that how people cope with mental health problems is getting worse as the number of people who self-harm or have suicidal thoughts is increasing.

THE CAUSE:
1 in 4 adults and 1 in 10 children experience mental illness, and many more of us know and care for people who do.
1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England.
FUNDRAISING:
Over the past year and a bit since Covid hit we have held 6 online fundraising events to help outside charities as they needed help more than ever to deal with the increased pressure on their services and an unprecedented amount of people needing to reach out to them and we are so proud to say we raised close to £4000 across all those events and a couple of other little projects too and we thank everyone for their kind donations, you have 100 percent made a difference.
As we were due to hold our first DJ workshops in 2020 but had them postponed we are now in a position to announce very soon the rescheduled dates for those but we also wanted to get them up and running on a regular basis and to also have a second location closer to where we are based, here in in Essex...So for our 2nd Birthday event we will be raising funds for ourselves with every penny going towards equipment and the set up of these new DJ workshops and a local studio...
We have only ever raised funds for ourselves during our launch 2 years ago which helped with the first workshops so now we want to push on with our mission to provide these free creative outlets for more people.
We currently fund mu4mh ourselves so it is now time to push on with our own fundraising because this will not be able to continue without incoming funds and it will also get us closer to becoming a charity one day.
We will have a gofundme page set up during the event and as always a week after so if you can spare anything we would be eternally grateful and you will be contributing to providing a creative outlet to folks who may need something to do to help with their own mental wellbeing. Details of the gofundme will be given closer to the event.
To find out more about us and our plans, our mission and to find out all about our previous events and fundraising, please check out the rest of our website or headover to our Facebook page HERE
We are so excited to bring you the next installment of our Emotional Response Trance Parties and bring us all together to raise lots more mental health awareness and rais funds to help us continue with our mission to help people with their struggles using the immense power of music. The past 2 years have been amazing and we have been overwhelmed with everyone's feedback on our online events and we appreciate everyone who helps us with the cause...The past year and a bit has been incredibly difficult for many of us and still continues so using these events to help with everyone's mental wellness is key to how we operate while there ar eno real events...We look forward to seeing familiar friends and making new ones on the 10th of July and making lots of noise and making a difference.

So...Everyone here at Music Unity For Mental Health and Dark Matter London would like to extend our huge thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday for the Reflective Frequencies with special guests DARK MATTER LONDON event in aid of The Mix Charity....Once again we were blown away with the kindnes and generosity of you all and as you can see we have doubled our target and have now raised over £700 for The Mix....It is an incredible amount and you should all be very proud...The event was amazing and we also wanted to say a massive thank you to all of the DJs who kept us entetained for what ended up being 15 and a half hours of music...Every DJ was on point and each had their own unique set and style which made the whole day awesome. The music was fantastic...The chat was, as always a super happy and friendly place and it was great to see the DJs in there joining in too. We always encourage EVERYONE to join in and we weren't disappointed.. Without these amazing, kind souls and all of you guys we wouldn't be able to do these events so from our's and Dark Matter London's hearts, Thank you
Over the next week we will be posting the live sets across our Mixclouds so if you haven't already make sure you follow our's and Dark Matter London's...The links are below.
The Just Giving page is going to remain live for another 7 days so if you want to donate some more or would like to share the page to friends and family, we would be so grateful...See if we can get a little more for the cause and The Mix https://www.justgiving.com/.../mu4mh-reflective...
A little personal thank you from MU4MH to Dark Matter London--When we set out to find another brand to work with for our first collaboration on an event, we never thought it would be with these guys, yes they were on our note pad to contact for some time but until you actually speak to someone you just don't assume you know what way it will go....One of our fave quotes is 'Expect Nothing, Appreciate Everything' and you can be 100 percent certain we have appreciated everything from their help and support on this event to their incredible DJs who played this event...So...to you, Dark Matter London You are stars in our eyes and we could never thank you enough.
As always, this is a team effort, not one person takes the credit for any of these events and projects and everyone who joins us on events, donates, shares our posts, comments, messages us..You are part of that team... The MU4MH family...We couldn't do it without you.
So, what next? We have more events planned for the rest of the year including our long awaited return to a REAL club...It is still ongoing and we are being cautious and not jumping the gun before we all know 100 percent how we will run a real event with the venue, safely. We have more virtual events planned including the launch of our House mini-brand, Connected, so look out for that soon. And fingers crossed our delayed DJ workshops will start again soon too with another location being added outside London.
But until then, Keep making lots of noise and making a difference

Hi all,
We wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive heartfelt thank you to all the amazing DJs that gave us such an awesome day of trance yesterday, at the Emotional Response Summer Trance Party & MU4MH 2nd Birthday, you guys were outstanding. Ricardo Elgardo // John Spider // Adam Murr // Mai // Paul Skelton Ben Dursley // Scotcha // Luke Haydon // GXD // Blackromeo // Adam Taylor // Tasso // Josh Bailey It truly was a spectacular journey through so many different styles of trance with each DJ delivering a unique set each time. The guys and girls that gave their time to entertain us are without a doubt a shining example of how we can all come together and keep striving to battle mental health head-on. We all know how important music is in helping with our mental wellbeing and this is why we continue to hold events so people can have a release from whatever is going on in their world and lose themselves in the music for a few hours. Even though we have not been able to get back into the clubs over the last year our amazing DJs and wonderful community has helped us raise over £3,500 for several mental health charities via online events. Without you guys, this would not be possible.🥰 Our event yesterday was not raising funds for a particular charity, this time it was to raise money for us so we can continue with our free DJ workshops. By running these we aim to give people an outlet and be creative thus giving them time to take their minds off whatever is going on in life. We are ever so grateful for everyone who donated yesterday and can't thank you enough. We raised over £200 which will really help in making the workshops a reality but there is still a way to go. The kindness of our DJs and volunteers that give up their time to help us is paramount as we do not receive any outside funding. Our wonderful community continues to support us and without you guys, we would not be here. Thank you for standing by us and helping us raise more awareness around mental health and collectively we can make a difference. Please see the below link if you wish to donate and once again thank you to everyone that made yesterday a real success. Much love from the MU4MH team. 🙏❤ https://gofund.me/81338a3d
